I am a beginner photographer and would love to know what kind of camera would be best?

I love Nikons. I am not wanting to spend a lot (meaning over $800) on a camera. Does anybody have any suggestions on what Nikon would be best? I am looking at the Nikon D40X. But any other suggestions would be great! Thanks! Also please tell me the features of the cameras you suggest. Or if you own a D40X, could you please tell me the pros and cons of that one? Thanks so much!I am a beginner photographer and would love to know what kind of camera would be best?
The D80 is a more capable camera body, more substantially built, and has come down in price lately. The D40, D40x, and D60 are all fine entry level dSLR's, any of which will serve you well. The main drawback to the D40's and D60 is that they will not autofocus with older lenses that don't have the autofocus motor in the lens itself. If you don't already have a lot of older Nikon glass, that probably doesn't matter.

If you want to research them, try www.dpreview.com. If you can swing it, get a decent flash, too. The SB600, SB800 (discontinued) and the SB900 are all nice flashes and will be a big improvement over the pop-up flash.

Have fun with your new camera!I am a beginner photographer and would love to know what kind of camera would be best?
I own the D40X

It is good. Canon cameras seem to be more durable. But the interface in the Nikon is nice. Lighting is very important. This camera is enough. But invest in a strobe or other lighting.

To do photography write you should buy books. Study other's photographs. But more importantly have fun!

Below is a link to some Pro-Sumer DSLRs
Since they just upgraded the Nikon D80 with the Nikon D90, you can find some amazing deals on the D80 right now. It is a phenomenal camera and will have a lot more capability than the D40x.

i have a Nikon D50. its a very good camera and takes really crisp pictures. it has a lot of features and is quite hard to use at first. you get used to it though.

considering that you are just starting out i would say that you dont need something as advanced as a D50, maybe a D30 or something would be better. i think they're about 拢400 or something

anyway good luck :)

i like the Canon Rebel XSI i have one and love it it's a sick camera i have the 12.1 mega pixel its cheaper now prolyl around 500 with good deals and what not
Personally, I have an old Ricoh (pre-digital) i find that this camera has some of the clearest photos and is very low maintenance.
those old one's from the 20's that are wooden, and u go under a blanket and the big flash bulb goes off ;)

or you could just go for a digital camera, either way
Nikon DX90 best for indoor and dark lighted areas
