What brand of bass guitar is best for a beginner?

What brand of bass guitar is best for a beginner if I will be playing alternative/ rock? What brand of bass guitar is best for a beginner?
Here are some good starter basses (low price, good quality):

Squier Affinity P Bass

Squier Affinity J Bass

Squier Vintage Modified Precision/Jazz Bass

Peavey Millenium

Peavey Milestone 5

Yamaha RBX170

Ibanez GAXB

Ibanez GSR200

Warwick Rockbass Streamer Standard

OLP MM2

Washburn XB100

All those basses will give you good value for a good price.

Also, about what he said: some people don't like Ibanez (I personally enjoy them), but they're almost universally recognized as one of the top makers of mid-range bass guitars (along with Schecter).

Hope that helps. What brand of bass guitar is best for a beginner?
Washburn makes fairly good quality basses for fairly cheap prices.

T-12 should get the job done well enough. Ibanez is pretty hit or miss as is epiphone. The Fender Squier ';P'; and ';J'; basses are pretty good, but definitely nowhere near their big brothers.
